Praia da Luz is a picturesque fishing village on the South coast of Portugal.
Blessed with over 300 days of sun shine a year it is a popular all year round
holiday destination.
The historic Fortaleza (Fortress in English) is situated at the heart of the
village. It dates back as far as 1670 and was built to protect Praia da Luz
from the Moors who relentlessly looted the coast from their pirate ships.
Today, a listed building, this fortress has been fully restored and operates
as Luz’s premier restaurant offering traditional Portuguese classics with an
international bias in what is unquestionably the village’s most spectacular
setting.
It is an ideal venue for your whole wedding function and is conveniently
situated opposite the picturesque village church.
The intimacy and exclusivity of the walled exotic gardens and lawn are an
ideal back drop to capture your memories on film on your special day.
Perched on top of a cliff the outside terrace offers stunning views over the
ocean, the beach and the wild coastline. There can be no better setting for
organising your ‘welcome drink’ to greet your guests as they arrive.
The Baronial Hall with its fairy tale vaulted candle lit interior has a very
special atmosphere that ideally suited to banqueting in style.
Your reception is as important to us as it is to you and we will do
everything possible to accommodate your wishes.
The Fortaleza has justifiably an excellent reputation for hospitality and
good food and friendly yet professional service. Wedding Breakfasts and
Receptions at the Fortaleza da Luz combines the finest cuisine with
personal service and the charming surroundings guarantee a memorable
day tailored to meet all your requirements.
Organising your Wedding:
The welcome drink:
the perfect way start to your event
The welcome cocktail can be served on the terrace overlooking the sea from
the outside bar. Welcome Drinks and canapés may be served to your guests as
they arrive and whilst the photographs of the wedding couple are being taken.
This usually takes place on the open air terrace overlooking the beach.
Photographs are taken in the gardens or even on the beach and rocks below.
Drinks choose one welcome drink from the following:
Champagne cocktail
Rum punch
Bucks Fizz
Sparkling wine Sangria with summer fruits
Kir Royale
Beer, wine, soft drinks and water are included
Price per person for unlimited drinks for 1 hour: €10.00
Canapés choose any 5 from the list below:

Breaded prawns
Meat croquets
Prawn dips
Dates wrapped in bacon
Traditional Portuguese cod fish cakes
Home made ice cream or sorbet

The Fortaleza offers mainly traditional Portuguese cuisine with fresh fish
and sea food a speciality. The whole menu is freshly prepared from
scratch using seasonal locally sourced ingredients.
The following Set Menus have proven popular in the past and can be
produced for any number of guests. These are only suggestions – further
dishes are listed should you wish to create your own menu.
All main courses are served with an appropriate selection of fresh vegetables
A buffet option is offered inspired from our famous ‘Jazz Lunch’ should this format
be preferred
Vegetarian options can be provided
Menus do not include drinks
There is a special menu for children between the ages of 5-10 years. Alternatively
children may have half portions of adult menus charged at half price
Menus are estimated for 100 guests using the whole venue in the mid season
Menu prices may vary according to the total number of guests, final menu selected,
portion of the building used and the time of year
Menus do not include coffee charged at €1.50 per person

For drinks during the meal you may either:
Take a drinks package which will include drinks throughout the meal
(from between the time guests sit down to table to the speeches or cake
cutting). The drinks included in this package are:
House wine (red and white: Pousio from Alentejo)
• Beer (local Sagres on tap)
• All soft drinks (Coke, Fanta, Sprite, etc.)
• Water (soft or carbonated)
Price per person: €15
Or you may wish to pre-purchase a certain amount of drinks at list price.
Toasts during speeches:
For toasts you have the choice of Portuguese méthode champenoise
sparkling wine or French Champagne. You should allow 5 glasses per
bottle and 2 glasses per person.
• Our House Champagne is €39 per bottle; Moët et Chandon is €59.
• Our Portuguese Méthode Champenoise is €21 a bottle.
After dinner drinks:
These can be paid either by your leaving a certain amount of money
behind the bar or guests can pay for their own drinks.

Factors impacting your budget
There are 4 Factors impacting your Budget
The budget is calculated according to the following factors:
Time of year: the closer to high season the higher the cost per person.
Generally we do not hold private functions either in July, August nor the first half
of September. We offer a 50% reduction for weddings from November to April.
Final menu selection: a selection of menus that have proved popular are listed
herewith
Number of guests: the more guests you have the lower the cost per person
Portion of the venue used. The Fortaleza and gardens can be divided into various
areas to accommodate your function according to the number of guests you are
expecting or as use as a whole unit. As a guide line:
The Baronial Dining Hall will accommodate 80 sitting guests
A further 40 guests can sit in the adjoining Ocean Terrace
The outside terrace can fit 120 guests
The nearby Deck-room can accommodate a further 50 guests
Various combinations of these areas can be modulated to suit your needs.
For 80 or more guests you should consider opting for the full unit
For use as a whole unit an exclusivity charge may be applied.
23% VAT will be added to final prices in line with current Portuguese law.
Candido is the local horse and cart man who can get you to the church on time!
All bookings are accepted in accordance with the following booking conditions. No variance
to these conditions is accepted or implied by any person or employee.
PAYMENTS
A 20% non refundable deposit of agreed budget is required to confirm reservation
Payment method: bank transfer, cheque or cash
All payments must be made 1 week before the event
The amount charged is for the total estimated cost agreed at the time the budget was set
and is irrespective of the number of persons that did or did not turn up to the event.
LAST ORDERS
Due to staff shifts all bookings are accepted with the latest finish time being no later than
11.00 p.m.
